It's 2am and I cant sleep

All I can keep thinking about is how can I improve my life, its something that has been going through my head a lot lately. I want to improve the quality of my life while I am here for whatever amount of time that may be. Ever since i was in high school I have had this urge, I think it started with being Straight Edge and living a life style that was about getting away from social crutches and living a "Pure and Clean Life." During these three to four years I think I felt the best I have ever felt. My life is chaotic alot of the time, and I think being straight edge helped bring me a centerdness that I needed. Now I'm not trying to say that I was better than anyone, or that even i really want to be straight edge now. What I getting at is I wanted more of that centeredness back in my life.
How can this be achieved? isn't that what millions of self help books out there try to sell you? Have you ever noticed though that they don't work probably 99% of the time? They are just selling hope. I should know I'm and avid reader of them, looking for improvement has become a crutch, because alot of the time you just read away, get excited and then it wears off and then you go back to what you were doing anyways. I dont want that anymore, and I think I have finally figured out they way to achieve meaningful success at getting rid of bad habits and gaining new good habits.
I believe all it takes is 3 things
1. Time (30 days)
2. Accountability (From outside your self)
3. Endurance
These are the keys to making real change. And I am about to put them and myself to the test. For the next year I will be taking 12 things that I want to change about myself and going month by month trying to either eliminate them or add them to my life in what will hopefully add to my overall since of well-being. And I want your help in keeping me accountable for them. If you see me not following any of the ones that i will list each month, I want you to call me out...and you shall be rewarded.
The First month I would like to really get rid of a bad habit that I feel adds nothing to my life, something that I have went a majority of my life without doing and was just fine, and I feel will be just fine without it. So for the next 30 days if you see me doing the following activity and you call me out on it I will pay you 25 dollars, straight up. It will be in my wallet and I will pay you on the spot.
So my first challenge is to stop drinking alcohol. When the 30 days is up there will l be an evaluation to see if this has in fact improved my life. If so great I will continue on this path, if not I will be able to change my decision, but only after November 22, until that point this holds.
I hope that everyone will be interested in helping me make this change if they know me, who knows maybe it will inspire some people to make changes in their own lives.

Awsome Quote

I find this awsome quote today, its about rockstars, but you could take that term out and add any other term....Bike rider, skateboarder, painter, performer...ect. It really speaks to my ideals about doing independently exposed

"A rock star is not someone who takes the temperature, who gauges the marketplace before he creates his "art". A rock star is someone who needs to create and is willing to tolerate the haters along with the fans. He’s someone who incites controversy just by existing. That’s what we lost in the dash for cash. Unique voices. I’m not saying we haven’t ended up with some pleasant music, but it just hasn’t hit you in the gut, it’s the aural equivalent of Splenda, it might do the trick, but it’s not the real thing. The real thing grabs your attention, drives down deep into your heart and lodges itself there. A rock star doesn’t follow conventions, doesn’t go disco or add drum machines just because everybody else does. A rock star exists in his own unique space, and if you met him you probably wouldn’t like him. Because he tends to be self-focused to the point of being narcissistic. Because he cares. He needs to get his message out." - Bob Lefsetz
