So I was a little skeptical that this film would just be the same as the old movie Liar Liar, which also stared Jim Carrey. But once you get past all the silly slapstickness of the film several deep psychological concepts really show through amazingly. Now I don't want to give away the whole film, but it starts out with a man saying no to life (not making decisions, thus not living life) He lacks purpose and passion as well as skill with women (Masculinity) Until he meets a self help guru who makes a pack with him to start saying yes to everything, thus allowing him to break out of this rut and start making decisions (This could be any new age self help guru currently out there, there are a ton of them.) His masculinity boost up, he starts to enjoy his career, he meets a woman who is his opposite (KWML- He's a King, she's a Magician, and people by nature are attracted to their opposites) By agreeing to do wild and crazy things and just go with the flow he creates the powerful attraction tool of mystery. Things are going pretty well except that by saying yes to everything he is indiscriminate with his time and thus conflict arises (by saying yes to everything, he is not using Observing Ego which is being able to look over your self in a real time way and judge your actions.) Also there is a point that his girlfriend finds out the truth about his attending this seminar, and thus his pact to saying yes (Or his secret to the mystery behind him) When this happens it totally shuts her down and the relationship directly ends for no other reason. The mystery has been broken and solved, the question mark becomes a period. By not using Observing Ego and saying yes to everything he is alos practicing poor assertion of boundaries in his life. And I don’t want to really give away the ending so I will stop there, but we can see directly through this movie a great deal of real life problems that many men face in society today. Awesome film
Has anyone else seen it, what do you think?
